Breaking Down My Spotify Wrapped 2023

It’s that time of year again, where Spotify releases their yearly wrap-up of our music listening habits, which is called Spotify Wrapped. It’s obviously inaccurate because they release them in late November / early December, which is technically not the end of the year, and they don’t include music listening habits through CD and/or vinyl. However, it’s still fun going through my Spotify Wrapped because I like to see how well Spotify knows me. Anyways, with all that said, let’s get on with the music!

How Many Genres I Listened to in 2023

I listened to nine different genres in 2023. Like last year, I’m not sure how accurate that is, but whatever.

My Top Genres

1. Rock

2. Post-Teen Pop

3. Glam Metal

My Sound Town

I don’t know what the heck this means, but Spotify says that Moncton, Canada is my sound town because people there love The Black Crowes, Def Leppard, and AC/DC. Ah shoot, I just gave away a few of my top artists for 2023. Dang it!

My Top Song of 2023

My top song of 2023 was Richie Sambora’s “River of Love,” which I’m not complaining about because it is a banger. I streamed it 12 times and first listened to it, according to Spotify, on January 1. Yeah, the latter is not true because I first listened to Sambora’s Stranger in This Town (1991) album in early 2020.

My Top Songs of 2023

1. “River of Love” by Richie Sambora

2. “High ‘n’ Dry (Saturday Night)” by Def Leppard

3. “White Lightning” by Def Leppard

4. “Seven Years Gone” by Richie Sambora

5. “I’ll Be There for You” by Bon Jovi

I’m happy that two of these songs are Def Leppard songs because last year, no Def Leppard songs made the cut. Instead, they were all Bon Jovi songs, which was an outrage!

How Many Minutes I Listened to Spotify in 2023

In 2023, I spent 7,265 minutes listening to Spotify. My listening peaked on November 6 at 231 minutes. Last year, I spent 19,793 minutes listening to Spotify, which makes sense because I was in Florida, working for Walt Disney World, for most of the year, and had to take the bus to work. So, I was on Spotify a lot!

My Top Artist of 2023

My top artist of 2023 was The Black Crowes. I spent 1,419 minutes listening to them and was in the top 0.1 percent of Black Crowes listeners this year. The song I couldn’t get enough of was “Midnight from the Inside Out.” The thing I find strange is that none of my top five songs were by The Black Crowes, and yet, they’re my top artist. Spotify, you have some explaining to do! Last year’s top artist was Bon Jovi.

My Top Artists of 2023

1. The Black Crowes (peak listening month: May)

2. Def Leppard (peak listening month: February)

3. Bon Jovi (peak listening month: January)

4. AC/DC (peak listening month: February)

5. Blue Öyster Cult (peak listening month: January)

I find it funny that most of my peak listening months for these artists were January and February. The only reason why I listened to a lot of Blue Öyster Cult in January was because I saw them live early in the month and was preparing for the concert. Just like 2022, Def Leppard made the number two spot on my top artists of the year list.

Me in 2023: Collector

My taste is sublime. I listen to mostly my own playlists, and Spotify totally gets why. They’re perfect, after all. I wouldn’t call my playlists perfect, but they’re definitely better than what’s popular on the charts today!

There you have it, people! That’s my Spotify Wrapped 2023. The only major complaint, as mentioned before, is that not one Black Crowes song made my top songs of 2023 list, despite them being my top artist of the year. Spotify should really do their calculations better and oh yeah, not post their Spotify Wrapped things in late November / early December.
