November 2023 Purchases – Just Some CDs and a Whole Lot of Goodness

First of all, I’m nowhere near as good as my friend, John from 2loud2oldmusic, when it comes to these music purchases blog posts. However, November was a special month because three of these albums were from a record store in San Francisco and two of them were from eBay. I didn’t just buy stuff from Amazon, which is what I usually do. But, enough of me talking. Let’s get on with the music!

In early November, I was in San Francisco for a few days to attend a Queen + Adam Lambert concert, which I’ll do a review for eventually. On the second full-day of my trip, I went to a used record store called Amoeba Music, with my older sister and dad, and that place was huge! There were so many CDs, vinyl records, and movie soundtracks for decent prices. I would’ve bought more albums, if I had more room in my backpack to store them on the plane. 

I’ve been wanting to get Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti (1975) for a while now, but I never made the commitment until I found a used copy for $13. Heck, why not?!?! Then, while going through The Black Crowes section, I found a live album from 2002, which was recorded on October 30 and 31, 2001 at the Orpheum in Boston, Massachusetts during the band’s last two shows before going on hiatus (the first time). The setlist, which includes quite a few tracks from Lions (2001), is really good. For my last purchase from Amoeba Music (for now), I found Europe’s Out of This World (1988), which has the insanely catchy, “Superstitious.” Not their best album cover, but I’ve seen worse.

For my Amazon purchases, I was partially inspired by my 10 Fictional Bands I Wish Were Real blog post, where I talked about the bands, Steel Dragon and Stillwater. Those bands have some bangers, so I ordered the movie soundtracks for Rock Star (2001) and Almost Famous (2000). The latter is a two CD deluxe edition, in honor of the movie’s 20th anniversary. I also got a couple of new releases, The Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds (2023) and Dirty Honey’s Can’t Find the Brakes (2023). The former was a lot better than I expected. Don’t underestimate an older band, people!

Lastly, I have two releases from eBay. I stupidly got rid of my Lemonade Mouth (2011) CD, so I bought a used one from eBay. It was only $3 (not including shipping cost), which was totally worth it. The album was in great condition and it took me back 10-12 years, when the movie just came out.

After leaving Amoeba Music in San Francisco, I kept thinking about all the albums that I forgot to look for, including The Black Crowes’ The Lost Crowes (2006), which is a two-disc compilation containing material that was recorded during their Tall and Band sessions, from 1993 and 1997. Most of the tracks from the Tall sessions were re-worked for Amorica (1994). Tracks from the Band sessions were recorded for the follow-up to Three Snakes and One Charm (1996), but were never released. By Your Side (1999) came out instead. Both discs are cool, but the first one is especially cool because Amorica is my second favorite Black Crowes album and I love hearing the blueprints of those songs, while knowing the final results on the official album. The Lost Crowes album arrived two days before my birthday and it was worth it, just don’t ask how much I spent on it!

There you have it, people! Those are my purchases from November 2023. Nothing totally special and it’s not a lot of albums, but again, I felt they were worth talking about since they weren’t all from Amazon. Plus, The Lost Crowes album is awesome because I heard it’s hard to find, so I got lucky!
