Breaking Down My Spotify Wrapped 2021

For those of you that don’t know, every year Spotify gives their users all the details of which artists they listened to throughout the year, which songs they streamed the most throughout the year, and the genres they listened to throughout the year. This is called Spotify Wrapped. It’s basically a recap of your music listening throughout the “entire year”!

I’ve seen some bloggers and YouTubers talk about their Spotify Wrapped 2021 already. At first, I wasn’t going to do a post about it because I didn’t want to put much focus into Spotify since I’m slowly building a decent album collection. However, I changed my mind because I thought it’d be cool to look back and see how my Spotify Wrapped changes over time. So without further ado, let’s get on with the music!

If 2021 Was a Movie, This Would Be My Movie Soundtrack

•The opening credits theme: “What Do You Do for Money Honey” by AC/DC

•The song playing as I face-off against my rival dance crew: “Rock of Ages” by Def Leppard

•The song playing as I proclaim my love in the rain: “If I Could Fly” by One Direction

How Many Minutes I Listened to Spotify

I spent 12,153 minutes listening to Spotify. That’s more than 62 percent of other listeners in the United States.

My Top Song of the Year

My top song of the year was “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. I played it 18 times. I was surprised by this because it’s not even my favorite song by the band. I thought “Gone Shootin’” would be higher than “Thunderstruck,” to be honest.

My Top Songs

1. “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC

2. “You Got Me Runnin’” by Def Leppard

3. “What Do You Do for Money Honey” by AC/DC

4. “Fat Bottomed Girls” by Queen

5. “High ‘N’ Dry (Saturday Night)” by Def Leppard

My Audio Aura

My top music moods are nostalgia and wistful. That sounds about right because I only listen to One Direction when I’m in the mood for some nostalgia (and because their music is insanely catchy).

How Many Genres I Listened to in 2021

I listened to 18 different genres this year. I guess my music taste isn’t so boring after all, haha.

My Top Genres

1. Hard Rock

2. Post-Teen Pop

3. Boy Band

4. Classic Rock

5. New Wave of British Heavy Metal

My Top Artist

My top artist was AC/DC. I was in the top 0.5 percent of their listeners this year. I spent 2,585 minutes listening to AC/DC’s music and I couldn’t get enough of “What Do You Do for Money Honey” (haha, that’s so true). Def Leppard will always be number one in my heart, however. I don’t care if Spotify doesn’t recognize that.

My Top Artists

1. AC/DC

2. Def Leppard

3. One Direction

4. Metallica

5. Bon Jovi

I’m a bit surprised that Metallica was ranked higher than Bon Jovi because I thought I played more Bon Jovi songs (with Richie Sambora) than Metallica songs. I guess I need to show more love for Bon Jovi next year. Wait, I mean, I need to show more love for Richie Sambora, sorry.

That’s everything, people! Remember, my Spotify Wrapped is a summary of my online music listening, it doesn’t count my CD listening, which is a whole different story. On the plus side, I do enjoy looking at my Spotify Wrapped updates every year and I’m glad I finally decided to post about it this year. I can’t wait to see how my Spotify Wrapped 2022 will turn out, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

  1. That is cool Lana! I don’t listen to spotify so I don’t get that listen. I am sure Apple has one, but it would only be a dent of what I listen to as I usually listen to more physical product while working from home. I have a listening wrap up coming down the road as I tracked it myself.

    1. Yeah, the Spotify Wrapped is pretty cool! Spotify does like a mobile app presentation for you to view every year. I was going to put the screenshots of the presentation in this post, but I decided not too because I thought the pictures would be overwhelming and sloppy. WordPress used to give you a music summary?

      1. Oh wait, I think I remember you did a post of your WordPress stats, is that what you’re talking about? I don’t remember WordPress telling me what was my most popular post.

      2. Yeah, WordPress does show me how many people view my posts each day and which posts they viewed, which is cool My AC/DC, Bon Jovi, and Iron Maiden posts always gain new viewers, according to the stats.

      3. Holy shoot, I never clicked on the “years” tab before. I need to do that more often. Excluding the home page, my top three posts are ‘What If Drew Seeley was Troy in the ‘High School Musical’ Movies?’, the Iron Maiden review for ‘A Matter of Life and Death,’ and my review of AC/DC’s ‘Flick of the Switch.’

Thanks for pointing out the annual stats and making me look at it, my friend!

      4. I have Unleashed In The East, British Steel, Point Of Entry, Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller, Demolition, The Best Of Judas Priest: Living After Midnight, Nostradamus, Redeemer Of Souls, and Firepower. Oh, and Turbo and Defenders Of The Faith on LP.

      5. Yep, according to the review, you gave ‘Redeemer of Souls’ a positive review. Also, I like your perspective on the 2-CD version you have. Disc one is the main concert and disc two is the encore.

      1. Yeah, that’s the plus of streaming and people uploading albums to youtube! You can listen to the album before buying it. If you hate it, then you don’t have to waste your money on it lol.

  2. I still only use Spotify to sample music I don’t have, so my year-end never represents my taste very well. My most listened-to music overall though is easily The Tragically Hip since I did all those reviews with Sarah… and of course AC/DC.
