Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMs) were huge for me, not so much now! But everything from Camp Rock, High School Musical, Lemonade Mouth, and Stuck in the Suburbs, those films were my childhood. Some of the movies were cheesy as heck, but they came with great songs. Most of them were pop songs, but they had some rock moments as well. Today, I’ll be counting down my top five rock songs from Disney Channel Original Movies.
5. “Robot Riot” from Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension (2011)
Phineas and Ferb is not my thing, but some of their songs were pretty catchy, including this epic banger performed by the 1980s rock band Love Händel while Phineas, Ferb, and his friends fight against Dr. Doofenshmirtz (2nd Dimension)’s Norm Bots. This song made me wish Love Händel were a real rock group because it’s pretty badass! The lyrics are a bit weird; I’ll admit (I’m going to break you down And sell you for scrap metal (Robot Riot) / But I’ll keep enough to build myself a trampoline). But it’s a cartoon; anything can happen!
4. “Heart and Soul” from Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010)
I’m still waiting for a Camp Rock 3 (like that will happen, but a girl can dream, right?). The songs in the second film were even better than the ones from the first film. What’s cool about “Heart and Soul” is that the Jonas Brothers name various artists throughout the song, such as Bruce Springsteen, David Lee Roth, Axl Rose, and Christina Aguilera. Fun fact: when I began my black clothing phase during my freshman year of high school, I bought a black tank that said Guns N’ Roses, with Axl Rose on it, and I had no idea who he was at the time. Listening to the song now, how the Jonas Brothers refer to screaming like Axl Rose, I’m like, “oh, that makes sense!”
3. “Turn It All Around” from Radio Rebel (2012)
Thank goodness for Radio Rebel; I think that was the only DCOM that embraced the rock scene. Debby Ryan, the star of the film, did a cover of The Go-Go’s “We Got the Beat” for the movie soundtrack. “Turn It All Around” was briefly played in the film, so I must’ve overlooked it; cause I remember “We So Fly;” since The GGGG’s performed it at Stacy’s party in the movie. Right off the bat, this song slaps, and I never knew Atticus Mitchell could sing like that! I just knew he played a jerk in Radio Rebel; that’s it.
2. “And the Crowd Goes” from Lemonade Mouth (2011)
Out of all the songs from Lemonade Mouth, “And the Crowd Goes” is the one I play the most because that bassline is sick! Everything I could ever want in a rock song: loud drums, catchy chorus, and big guitars. Ok, there aren’t that many guitars in this song, but there is a guitar solo. The band is Mudslide Crush, the rival group of Lemonade Mouth. That band is the closest Disney will ever get to a punk band; they don’t make music that sounds as good as the older DCOMs did, unfortunately.
1. “Do What You Gotta Do” from Descendants 3 (2019)
“Do What You Gotta Do” is the most recent song on the list, and in my humble opinion, the best track that came from Descendants 3. I love how Mal and her dad are singing, yet they’re also fighting at the same time. Mal is upset that her dad was never around growing up, and the dad was like, “I did you a favor by leaving.” But seriously, I sang this song nonstop when Descendants 3 came out during the summer of 2019. They haven’t been doing much rock recently on Disney Channel, so I was pleasantly surprised when the piano kicked in, and we got this!
There you go! There aren’t many headbangers from Disney Channel Original Movies, and most of the songs came out close together, but it is what it is. Let me know in the comments below what your favorite DCOM rock song is!
Take care and see ya real soon!

I’ve had to suffer through many Disney movies and sometimes it was really suffering. Lemonade Mouth was okay though.

Yeah that’s why it’s one of my favorite DCOMs! I liked it better than High School Musical actually. Thanks for reading John!

Interesting. I tend to associate Disney songs with princesses singing about whatever their main storyline problem is. Not much for me here, though that And The Crowd Goes verse part does a cute attempt at the Chilis. I do love the band name Love Händel, though. That’s comedy genius. I’m glad Disney is at least trying to rock.

Yeah Disney Channel Original Movies are a bit different from Disney overall (like Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, etc.). It’s cool, not everyone digs Disney Channel and it was hard making this list because as mentioned they don’t cover rock much and their songs are cheesy at times. Love Händel would’ve been a cool band in the 80s. I don’t pay attention to Disney Channel much nowadays, so I’m not sure what they’re doing at the moment.
Thanks for reading Aaron!

Might be time to check in. Love Händel sounds like a Spinal Tap song title to me too, ha.

Man that has got to be the happiest theme song I’ve ever heard. Maybe if I do a Disney overall list, I’ll consider adding it! Thanks for reading Kevin!

Oh, I used to love Robot Riot and Do What You Gotta Do! I haven’t watched all of them but I agree that they were quite cheesy. Fun post!

Thanks so much D! I’m not a huge Phineas and Ferb fan honestly. I only found out about that song when I made that post. I hated the first Descendants, but somehow ended up watching the second one and liked it, so I watched the third one too. Do What You Gotta Do is the best song from that movie, in my humble opinion. Thanks for reading!
