When it comes to Michael Jackson’s solo albums, the three Quincy Jones albums are the ones that get talked about the most, at least in the U.S. I’m going to change that with this post because I think Michael’s work got more interesting after he parted ways with the legendary producer. Dangerous (1991) is a perfect example! Dare I even say the songs on there are way better than the songs on Thriller (1982)? With all that said, let’s get on with the music!
This episode of Rock ‘n’ Roll Tales from the Lady in Black is all about Michael Jackson’s fourth solo album, Dangerous. Wanting to forge his own creative path, Michael decided to part ways with Quincy Jones after completing his contract with the legendary producer. Michael served as an executive producer for Dangerous, and recruited Teddy Riley, Bill Bottrell, and Bruce Swedien to help him out as co-producers. Dangerous saw Michael pushing musical boundaries, as it includes different genres such as hard rock, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, and new jack swing. It was his most ambitious album at the time and quite possibly still holds up as his most ambitious album ever!
