10 Fictional Bands I Wish Were Real

After watching Lemonade Mouth a couple weeks ago, I realized not only did the film get better with age, but the songs still hold up to this day! I have “Breakthrough” stuck in my head as I’m typing this out now. In my opinion, Lemonade Mouth are one of the best fake bands that ever existed. With that in mind, today’s post is all about 10 fictional bands from movies and TV shows that I wish were real. Now, let’s get on with the music!

10. Love Händel from Phineas and Ferb (2007-2015)

First of all, the name Love Händel is awesome; very hair metal-like. Love Händel are an American hard rock band who found commercial success in the ‘80s. They initially broke up because of their dwindling popularity and constant fighting, but got back together in the season one episode titled, “Dude, We’re Getting the Band Back Together.” It’s actually my favorite Phineas and Ferb episode, and it’s the one I remember the most. Love Händel’s most popular song is “You Snuck Your Way Right Into My Heart.” “Robot Riot” also kicks butt, despite the weird lyrics.

9. Connect 3 from Camp Rock (2008)

Connect 3 is basically Camp Rock’s version of the Jonas Brothers, which I’m not complaining about. The band consists of Shane, Nate, and Jason Gray. They formed at Camp Rock many years ago and after making it big, Shane developed a high maintenance superstar ego. Fed up with his attitude, Nick and Jason had Shane work at Camp Rock for the entire summer, in order to bring him back to his roots. Thankfully, that succeeded and Connect 3 have been going strong since then, at least in the Camp Rock universe. My favorite song by them is “Heart and Soul” from Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010).

8. Alvin and the Chipmunks from Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)

I know the high-pitched chipmunk voices can be annoying sometimes, but Alvin and the Chipmunks was one of my favorite movies as a kid, so I had to include them for nostalgia purposes. Creator Ross Bagdasarian, under the stage name David Seville, released “Witch Doctor” in 1958, for which a high-pitched, squeaky voice effect was used for the witch doctor. Following the song’s success, Bagdasarian came up with three singing chipmunks named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore; the group released “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” later that year. Eventually, the chipmunks released four CGI / live-action movies and all of them are hilarious. Alvin and the Chipmunks have some banging original tunes, but it’s their covers that steal the show, especially their cover of AC/DC’s “T.N.T.”

7. Bratz Rock Angelz from Bratz: Rock Angelz (2005)

Before 2023, I was only familiar with their song, “So Good.” Then, I listened to the movie soundtrack this past January and fell in love with the music because it was different from Bratz’s typical pop and R&B stuff; it was pop rock! The Bratz girls start their own fashion magazine after Jade gets fired from her previous internship with Your Thing Magazine. For their first issue, they head to London to cover the opening celebration of a brand new nightclub called Pinz. They receive tickets for a benefit concert, Save the Universe, happening the next night, but after their tickets are stolen, the girls form Bratz Rock Angelz after it’s revealed that only rock bands can attend the event without tickets. “Who I Am,” “All About You,” and “Stand Out” are my other favorite songs by them.

6. The GGGG’s from Radio Rebel (2012)

It’s a shame there wasn’t a sequel to Radio Rebel because think about the bangers The GGGG’s could’ve written for that soundtrack. “Now I Can Be the Real Me,” “Turn It All Around,” and “We So Fly” are excellent pop rock songs. They almost broke up because of Gabe’s, the lead singer, obnoxious attitude and refusal to give Gavin’s ideas a chance. But, Gabe redeemed himself in the end, thankfully. If he was a horrible person altogether, I would not support The GGGG’s because I do not support jerks (with the exception of Jon Bon Jovi from Bon Jovi for the Richie Sambora era of the band).

5. The Country Bears from The Country Bears (2002)

The Country Bears were the first band I had in mind for this post because they’re a group of bears that play country rock music; how cool is that?!?! It’s like a combination of early Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Eagles. They were popular in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but disbanded in the early ‘90s because of personal issues within the group; a lot of it was blamed on lead vocalist and guitarist Ted Bedderhead for his controlling personality. However, they reunited in the early 2000s for a benefit concert to save Country Bear Hall, the band’s former concert hall, from being torn down by a greedy banker. Interestingly enough, a classmate performed one of The Country Bears’ songs, “Straight to the Heart of Love,” for a guitar class I took during my junior year of high school. “Where Nobody Knows My Name” and “Let It Ride” are my other favorite tracks by them.

4. Julie and the Phantoms from Julie and the Phantoms (2020)

I will never forgive Netflix for canceling Julie and the Phantoms after one season because it was such a good show. The main ship had great chemistry, the storyline was unique, and the music was insanely catchy! In 1995, garage rock band Sunset Curve were due to play at the Orpheum in Los Angeles, California; but unfortunately, they never got to do so because three of the members (Luke, Alex, and Reggie) died from eating rancid street dogs. 25 years later, the ghosts are brought back to life and meet a human named Julie, who’s suffering from her mom’s death a year prior. They become close and decide to form a band together, after realizing the ghosts can be seen by other humans when performing with Julie. My favorite Julie and the Phantoms songs are “Bright,” “Unsaid Emily,” “Finally Free,” “Stand Tall,” and “Perfect Harmony.”

3. Steel Dragon from Rock Star (2001)

For the record, Mark Wahlberg does not sing the film; instead, his character’s vocals were provided by Steelheart frontman Milijenko Matijevic. Rock Star was inspired by the true story of Tim “Ripper” Owens becoming Judas Priest’s new frontman after being discovered in a Judas Priest cover band. Owens isn’t in Judas Priest anymore, but it’s still an intriguing story that grabs people’s attention. Steel Dragon’s sound is ‘80s hair metal and to make things even better, the band members are actually famous rock musicians in real life. Notable ones include Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson, and John Bonham’s son, drummer Jason Bonham. My favorite Steel Dragon songs are “Livin’ the Life,” “Blood Pollution,” “Stand Up,” and “Wasted Generation.”

2. Stillwater from Almost Famous (2000)

Stillwater are a ‘70s rock ‘n’ roll band that resembles Led Zeppelin. They were inspired by director Cameron Crowe’s own adventures of following The Allman Brothers Band on the road, back in the day. Stillwater’s songs were written by Nancy Wilson from the rock band Heart and talkbox genius Peter Frampton. Like any famous rock band, Stillwater have had their share of fights and disagreements, especially between guitarist Russell Hammond and frontman Jeff Bebe, regarding all the attention Hammond has been receiving from the press. Despite their troubles, the band’s chemistry onstage is incredible and man, can these dudes play! My favorite Stillwater songs are “Chance Upon You,” “Love Thing,” “Love Comes and Goes,” “You Had to Be There,” and “Fever Dog.”

1. Lemonade Mouth from Lemonade Mouth (2011)

When I started my CD collection three years ago, I sold my “childish” albums to make room for rock albums. I don’t regret doing that for the most part; the only one I regret getting rid of is my Lemonade Mouth CD. I was stupid because I completely forgot about the bangers from that film. “Determinate,” “Here We Go,” “She’s So Gone,” “Breakthrough,” “Somebody,” and “Livin’ on a High Wire” are some of the best songs that ever came out of a Disney Channel Original Movie. What I love most about Lemonade Mouth, though, is that they represented the misfits; they fought to be heard and stood up for what they believed in. Olivia White, Wen Gifford, Mo Banjaree, Charlie Delgado, and Stella Yamada are names that you don’t want to forget!

There you have it, people! Those are 10 fictional bands that I wish were real. Now, if you excuse me, I’m going to go cry my eyes out because none of these killer bands actually exist. Oh well, at least we have the music!

  1. Very good, Lana, especially as I was a Phineas and Ferb fan back in the day. My stepson used to watch it so that was my excuse for doing so. However, when you listed the Steel Dragon songs, you left out my favourite, “We All Die Young.” Still, it’s a great soundtrack. I like the Chipmunks as well. They did put out an album in 1980 called Chipmunk Punk, which I think you might like .

    1. Thanks so much, Mike! It boggles my mind how popular ‘Phineas and Ferb’ was with people of all ages. Not going to lie, “We All Die Young” is my least favorite Steel Dragon song. Nonetheless, it’s cool that you dig it! I’ve heard about ‘Chipmunk Punk,’ thanks for the recommendation!

      1. I’ve never heard of them actually. I’m not a Beatles fan anyways. ‘American Idol’ ruined them for me. I appreciate what they’ve done for music, though.

  2. Steel Dragon and Stillwater are both great. Steel Dragon because Jeff Scott Soto does the vocals on a handful of those songs. Lemonade Mouth was one of the few movies my kids loved that I enjoyed. The songs were catchy and actually really good. A fun movie.

    1. Oh I didn’t know Jeff Scott Soto did some of the vocals for the film, that’s cool! Yep, one of Disney Channel’s best films ever. By the way, I finally bought another copy of the Lemonade Mouth CD. It’s a used version from Ebay and I won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon!

  3. It’s always really interesting whenever there’s a fictional band in a piece of media, because sometimes you can get some really good music. Two of my favourites include whatever the in-universe name is for the group that gave us this rocker in Resident Evil 2

And this number below. Technically it’s just a one-off collaboration between real-world musicians, but the song only features in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
