December 3, 2025 would’ve been Ozzy Osbourne’s 77th birthday. I’m not the biggest Black Sabbath fan, my knowledge on Ozzy’s solo career is as tiny as a ladybug; and I was too young to appreciate the insanity of his reality show, The Osbournes. However, when I got home from the Disney College Program in January 2023, I was blessed with re-runs of his other reality show, Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour, which became my comfort show during a confusing period in my life. I was fascinated by his eccentric personality and childlike curiosity. He didn’t need to be a famous singer for people to love him because he was lovable already. Throughout his life, he committed a lot of sins he wasn’t proud of, but he fought hard to get his life back on track, which made me admire him even more. In fact, he was fighting his addictions all the way till the last decade of his life.
As for the show itself, Ozzy’s son, Jack, had a wicked sense of humor and I thought he and Ozzy were a great pairing. Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour had a cool concept because besides traveling the world together, he and his dad got to create special memories that will last forever. My parents and I don’t always like the same shows, but Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour is one of the few shows we all like. All three seasons can be found on YouTube and I beg the internet gods above that they don’t get deleted. For my tribute to Ozzy, also known as the Prince of Darkness, here are my top 10 episodes of Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour!

10. “Spicy In-Laws” from Season 2
Ozzy makes quite an impression on Jack’s former in-laws in Louisiana. First, he devours his boudin sausages, which he never had before, amidst a brief power outage at their house. Then, he easily pulls out Logan’s loose front tooth, which makes Logan grow very fond of him (“Ozzy, I missed you,” says Logan. “You did?”, asks Ozzy). By the way, Logan is Pearl and Andy’s cousin. The next day, Ozzy inhales his cup of black coffee like a giant pelican. To top it off, he and Jack go crawfishing for the first time, where they encounter a few snakes. My favorite part of the episode was the aforementioned moment when Ozzy eats his boudin sausages in the dark.

9. “Aloha, Osbournes” from Season 2
After abandoning their wives to go on the road, Jack and Ozzy make it up to them with a trip to Hawaii. There’s a lot of weird stuff in this episode. Not as weird as going to a body farm in Texas, but weird enough. We get to see octopuses (not “octopussies”) mating, a volcano eruption, Ozzy burying Robert the Haunted Doll on a beach, Jack dancing the hula, and Andy having a wobbler. What’s cool about this episode is we get to see Ozzy and Sharon as grandparents; they babysit Pearl and Andy while Jack and Lisa, Jack’s now ex-wife, spend some alone time together. My favorite part of the episode was when Sharon continually scolds Ozzy for swearing in front of Pearl during their submarine tour of the ocean.

8. “Kelly Makes Three” from Season 3
I thought Kelly was a great addition to the show because she and Jack had such different personalities and different things that make them tick off. An example is Jack constantly annoying Kelly with “deez nuts” jokes, which I don’t understand why she was disgusted by them because I thought they were hilarious. The “deez nuts” jokes get a little out of hand when the trio travel to Pistachioland in New Mexico, where Ozzy and Kelly have a contest to see who can make the best nuts. Surprisingly, Kelly has the best nuts in the Osbourne family. They also get to make chainsaw art and are given a statue of a grizzly bear “flipping a bird.” My favorite part of the episode was when the trio visit White Sands National Park, where Jack and Kelly sled down a sand dune, and Ozzy gets photographed by Ross Halfin.

7. “I Am Ice Cream Man” from Season 3
After having his drugs and alcohol taken away from him, Ozzy makes it his mission to hold onto the one joyful thing he has left in his life, ice cream. When Kelly demands to be more involved with planning their excursions on the road, Kelly surprises Ozzy with a trip to Shatto Milk Company in Missouri, where they get to milk cows and make their own ice cream. Unfortunately for her, Ozzy purchases a giant container of strawberry ice cream to take home; he spends the rest of the day eating four gallons of it. Jack, opting for something more explosive, takes Ozzy and Kelly to the Missouri University of Science and Technology, where Ozzy blows up Robert the Haunted Doll. My favorite part of the episode was when Kelly surprises them with an emotional performance of Black Sabbath’s “Changes” by the St. Louis Women’s Choir. I’m really glad Ozzy and Kelly got to have that special moment together before the former passed away.

6. “Pearls of Wisdom” from Season 2
Jack’s oldest daughter, Pearl, was always a pleasure to watch on the show because she had a curious mind and was very smart for her age. It was cute seeing Jack take her and Ozzy grocery shopping because they both were quite a handful; Pearl was begging Jack for jell-o and Ozzy got lost in the store because he was trying to find all the ingredients he needed to make french fries. Jack takes the two of them camping in Arizona and while Pearl has fun in the great outdoors (and almost roasts a lizard), Ozzy finds pleasure in watching a movie on his phone instead. Another cute moment in the episode was when Pearl asks Jack if he loves her and he says, “Of course, I do and so does papa!” Ozzy then responds with, “I adore you. I love you more than anything!,” which she smiles in response to. My favorite part of the episode was when Ozzy and Pearl are giving Jack a hard time because they don’t want to go on a plane ride to the Grand Canyon, which Jack wanted to do so badly.

5. “Illin; and Chillin’” from Season 2
While in the Pacific Northeast, Jack gets the flu, forcing Ozzy to entertain himself for a bit. Let me tell you, there’s nothing like watching Ozzy do his own laundry in broad daylight; even the little kid in the laundromat was staring at him with a confused expression. Another funny moment of the episode was when Ozzy mishears Jack about the lumberjill wanting them to touch her axe. Ozzy being deaf, thought he said, “a**” instead of “axe;” typical Ozzy. On a more emotional note, if you look up the Wikipedia article for Ozzy’s song, “Ordinary Man,” Ozzy is wearing the same outfit and boots he wears when he and Jack catch geoducks at an oyster farm. My favorite part of the episode was when Ozzy, loaded on coffee from his trip to Stumptown Coffee, burns off steam at the hotel gym, on the elliptical.

4. “Lizard of Oz” from Season 3
In Alabama, Ozzy surprises Jack with a visit from David Turner, the “Rock and Roll Redneck,” and it’s one crazy adventure after another. During their stay, Turner surprises the gang, including Pearl, with his famous possum soup, which freaks Ozzy out. As part of Jack’s musical surprise, Jack, Ozzy, and Pearl visit a college marching band who do a medley of Ozzy’s songs; that took me back to my high school marching band days, not that we played Ozzy’s songs, I think. They also go to Space Camp to satisfy Jack’s childhood desires, where Ozzy reflects on the pleasure of being sober and spending time with his loved ones. Also, Pearl draws an invention called the “Venus of Love,” where hearts shoot out to make people feel lovable. My favorite part of the episode was when the trio go to take a picture with the Vulcan statue, which Jack hilariously describes as the iron statue with a “big naked butt.”

3. “The Devil Made Me Do It” from Season 1
Memphis, Tennessee, being the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, I was fascinated by mostly everything Ozzy and Jack did in this episode. When they visit Sun Studio, it’s like a mini rock documentary, hearing about who founded Sun Studio, how Elvis Presley got signed, and the story behind “Rocket 88,” one of the first rock ‘n’ roll songs ever recorded. While researching Robert Johnson, who supposedly sold his soul to the devil, Ozzy and Jack meet up with a musician named, James Johnson, also known as Super Chikan, whose grandfather knew Robert Johnson. He was so talented and according Ozzy, “this guy could make a f*cking guitar out of fresh air.” Ozzy also reflects on his father going into debt to buy him a PA system, which I found really sweet. My favorite part of the episode was when Jack takes Ozzy to a harmonica shop, where the owner shows off his diddley bow chops and Ozzy is gifted a brand new harmonica, who then proceeds to jam with the owner briefly.

2. “Iron Mountain Men” from Season 1
Jack goes all out for Ozzy’s birthday with a trip featuring all of his dad’s favorite things: history, music, weird artifacts, and chocolate. The first stop was the Eastern State Penitentiary, where Ozzy and Jack visit an old prison cell and learn about some of the people who were imprisoned there, including Pep the Dog, who was charged with killing the governor’s cat, which I thought was bollocks. It gets a bit gross when they visit the Mütter Museum, where they look at books made out of human skin, a wax model of an individual with syphilis, Albert Einstein’s brain, and the first Siamese twins ever. On a sweeter note, Jack takes Ozzy to the Hershey Company, where he eats loads of chocolate, he particularly favors the sugar-free chocolate, and gets excited over a Hershey chocolate syrup bottle with a photo of his beloved dog, Rocky. The real treat, however, is seeing Ozzy and Jack visit Iron Mountain, an underground storage facility that was built to withstand a nuclear blast. My favorite part of the episode was when Ozzy and Jack listen to the original recording of “Crazy Train” and when it gets to Randy Rhoads’ guitar solo, the sound engineer turns it up. So for a short while, all you hear is Rhoads shredding on the guitar; absolutely brilliant!

1. “Grand Ole Osbournes” from Season 3
To give Jack a break, Kelly plans all of the gang’s excursions in Nashville, where more humor and heart ensues. Ozzy relives his chocolate fantasy when Kelly takes the trio to the Goo Goo Shop to make their own versions of Goo Goo Clusters. As a music lover, I loved when the gang visited the United Record Pressing, where the trio learns about the vinyl making process and attempts to sticker the vinyl records that were being pressed for Ozzy’s compilation album, Memoirs of a Mad Man (2014). As a musical surprise for Ozzy, Kelly has the Louisville Leopard Percussionists, a group that Ozzy has been obsessed with for quite some time, perform an incredible cover of “Crazy Train” for him. Now that Ozzy’s no longer with us, I keep thinking about the kid who got to meet Ozzy, his favorite musician in the world, briefly after the performance because he was lucky enough to have met one of his heroes before he died. My favorite part of the episode was seeing Ozzy’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds because it looked so much like him; two Ozzys in one room, holy cow!
There you have it, people! Those are my top 10 episodes of Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour. Ozzy, thank you for the wonderful memories and laughter you’ve brought for me and my parents! Your spirit will live on forever through your music, shows, podcasts, and YouTube videos, etc. Now that you and Randy Rhoads are reunited, blow off the roof of rock ‘n’ roll heaven! Rest in peace, Ozzy Osbourne!

A whole lot of fun! ‘The Osbournes’ was the early template for ‘The Kardashians,’ which is too chaotic to handle. But with the focus on Ozzy and Jack (with Kelly in season three) in ‘Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour,’ the experience is more entertaining to watch. The best way I can describe it is ‘The Osbournes’ is for the ladies and those that love reality shows, while ‘Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour’ is for the men (and some ladies) who just want to have a laugh. That’s just my opinion.
