It’s that time of year again, people! Spotify released their yearly wrap-ups of our music listening habits, simply titled, “Spotify Wrapped.” Like last year, the calculations aren’t entirely accurate because they came out in early December, more specifically December 4, 2024. Also, CD and vinyl listens weren’t included in the calculations. However, it’s always fun going through my Spotify Wrapped because I get to see all the musical phases I went through this past year and how well Spotify really knows me. With all that said, let’s get on with the music!
My Minutes Listened
According to Spotify, I streamed music on Spotify for 30,457 minutes this year and my biggest listening day was January 24 with 467 minutes. That was a Wednesday, meaning I was at work. Geez, if only I could remember what I was doing that day. I’m in the top 11% of listeners worldwide. Last year, I spent 7,265 minutes streaming music on Spotify.
My Top Song
According to Spotify, I listened to 1,631 songs this year and the one I listened to the most was “Gone Away” by Rich Robinson. Since January 9, I have streamed it 26 times. I’m more surprised than upset about that because I can’t believe Spotify picked “Gone Away” as the song I streamed the most, yet, I can’t think of a replacement song. Probably a Def Leppard song. I’m in the top 0.005% of listeners worldwide. Last year’s top song was “River of Love” by Richie Sambora.
My Top Songs
1. “Gone Away” by Rich Robinson
2. “White Lightning” by Def Leppard
3. “When You Will” by Rich Robinson
4. “For to Give” by Rich Robinson
5. “P. 25” by The Black Crowes
Unfortunately, Richie Sambora got kicked off the leaderboard this year, same thing with Def Leppard’s “High ‘n’ Dry (Saturday Night).” On the plus side, “White Lightning” moved up a spot; it was number three last year.
My 2024 Music Evolution
January was my “Wild West Jam Band Southern Rock” phase, where I listened to artists like The Black Crowes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Rich Robinson. March was my “Pink Pilates Princess Western Pop” season, where I listened to artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and the Backstreet Boys. July was my “Witchy Rhythm Games Progressive Rock” moment, where I listened to artists like Rush. First of all, these titles are weird and grammatically incorrect. Second of all, the only evolution I confidently agree with is the Rush phase from July because that’s when I finished reading Geddy Lee’s My Effin’ Life (2023) book and fell in love with it.
My Top Artist
Out of the 106 artists I listened to this year, Def Leppard came out on top! My longest streaming streak was seven days and I listened to them for 5,114 minutes total. I’m in the top 0.05% of listeners worldwide. And yet, four of my top five songs were by Rich Robinson and The Black Crowes? Not that I’m complaining because Def Leppard are my favorite band, but come on Spotify, get your facts right! Last year, my top artist was The Black Crowes, despite none of my top songs being from them.
My Top Artists
1. Def Leppard
2. The Black Crowes
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd
4. Rush
5. Rich Robinson
Funnily enough, Def Leppard and The Black Crowes switched positions on the leaderboard. Last year, the exact order was The Black Crowes, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, and Blue Öyster Cult. I’m sad about AC/DC and Bon Jovi not making the cut this year, but I’m fine with not having Blue Öyster Cult because I haven’t listened to them in, well, a year. I’m quite impressed that Rush made the leaderboard since I just got into them during the second half of 2024, but with my obsessive personality, once I get into a new band, I go in HARD!!!
There you have it, people! That’s my Spotify Wrapped 2024. Surprisingly, this year’s calculations were more accurate than I thought. At least one Def Leppard song made the top songs leaderboard for them to be credited as my top artist for 2024. Again, it’s strange that most of the leaderboard contained songs by Rich Robinson and The Black Crowes, but I’ll consider it an accomplishment that Def Leppard finally became my top artist of the year after being stuck in the number two spot for the past three years. I do listen to Ariana Grande here and there, but the music evolution titles are really strange. I’m not too surprised about Lynyrd Skynyrd being my top three artist of 2024 because this past March marked the one-year death anniversary of guitarist Gary Rossington, therefore, I listened to them a lot earlier this year. Actually, now I want to play Gimme Back My Bullets (1976). I also want to play Rush’s Snakes & Arrows (2007). Well, gotta go, then!

Nice wrap up. I don’t have spotify and I don’t think Apple’s wrap is as comprehensive, but I’ve never looked to see if it was.

Thanks so much for reading, John! Now, I’m curious about Apple Music’s yearly wrap-up. I wonder if it’s more accurate or less accurate than Spotify’s yearly wrap-up lol. By the way, which artist did you listen to the most this year?
