Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2022 | DCP Fall 2022

Tuesday, August 30, 2022 was a special day for me because I got to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom! I’ve wanted to attend this party since I started watching Disney College Program vlogs in 2015. Therefore, this was a huge moment for me. Now, I can scratch Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party off my Disney bucket list.

I got lucky because I scored the last cheap ticket for the event, which was $109. The ticket price for the next date, September 2, increased to $119. August is a bit early to celebrate Halloween, which is why the tickets for that month were the cheapest. And unfortunately, the closer it is to Halloween, the more expensive the tickets are.

The party officially ran from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. But guests got to enter the park as early as 4:00 p.m. Knowing the crowds would be insane that day, I made it my mission to get to the park entrance by 3:15 p.m. I left Flamingo Crossings Village at around 2:20 p.m., arrived at the Ticket and Transportation Center at around 2:57 p.m., got to the event entrance at 3:15 p.m., and entered Magic Kingdom at 3:58 p.m. 

First, I met up with my friend from the Disney Ohana Club and her brother in Adventureland at 4:10 p.m. to do ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and part of ‘Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.’ Then, we had dining reservations at Skipper Canteen, which I’ve never been there before. I think our dining reservations were supposed to be at 4:50 p.m., but we got in earlier, which was nice. I loved the theming of the place; it had a ‘Jungle Cruise’ vibe, which made sense. I ordered lemonade and Skipper Dan’s Dan Dan Noodles. I’m not a huge fan of spicy food, but I had no idea the noodles were spicy until the last second I ordered them. Thankfully, they were manageable and the noodles were pretty good!

Afterwards, we did ‘Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid’ in Fantasyland. That was perfect because I saw The Little Mermaid (1989) on TV at work a few days beforehand. The ride definitely skips a lot of important scenes in the film, but the soundtrack is incredible!

Then, I parted ways with my friend and her brother, so that I could meet Rock ‘n’ Roll Stitch. I got in line at about 6:26-6:28 p.m. and after a lot of waiting, I finally met Stitch at around 8:30 p.m. Was it worth the wait? Heck yeah! I told him that we have a lot in common: we’re both from Hawaii, we both love rock ‘n’ roll, and we’re both mischievous. Stitch was so cool and we got on really well!

I originally wanted to meet two characters, but because it took me a long time to meet Stitch, I didn’t want to miss out on the entertainment and food the party had to offer. Stitch’s meet-and-greet took place in Tomorrowland and since I was already there, I thought, “why not ride the spooky version of ‘Space Mountain’?” That ride is already intense, but this time, the lights were out and it was complete darkness. The soundtrack was different too; like a dramatic film score. Also, I think I only waited 15-20 minutes to get on the ride, so that was awesome! 

After all that standing and waiting in line, I headed to Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies for an air conditioned break and tried the Not-So-Poison Apple Pie Milk Shake. That was one of the yummy foods offered at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. The milkshake was refreshing and beautiful to look at! Then, I went to ‘Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor’ to watch the Halloween version of the attraction. Other than the Halloween themed screens, it wasn’t anything special. Just the monsters talking to the little ones about the candy they got from the party.

The craziness really began when I left Tomorrowland and headed to Main Street, U.S.A./Cinderella’s Castle to watch back-to-back entertainment. I found a good spot in front of the castle (despite a guy in front of me that was filming on his phone) to watch the ‘Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular’ fireworks show at 10:15 p.m. The projections on the castle were incredible and Jack Skellington was there; holy cow! Plus, I enjoyed the story of Mickey and the gang trying to escape a haunted house. 

I was going to leave after the fireworks show to do another ride, but then, I saw that people were still standing in their spots. Like they were waiting for something else to happen. Well, 30 minutes later, the ‘Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular’ show took place at 10:45 p.m. I had little expectations for the show because I’ve never seen the Hocus Pocus (1993) film, but man, that show was great! I had no idea the Sanderson sisters could sing really well and their cover of “I Put a Spell on You” was unbelievable. The show also featured famous Disney villains like Jafar, the Evil Queen, Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent, Hades, Captain Hook, and Lady Tremaine. 

Finally, it was time for ‘Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.’ I’ve heard amazing things about that parade, so I was pumped! This was the second showtime for the parade and I think it was supposed to take place at 11:15 p.m., but it took place at around 11:30 p.m. instead. I heard that Max Goof dressed as Powerline sometimes appears before the parade, but I never saw him from where I was standing, unfortunately. ‘Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade’ was really cool, though. I got to see so many rare characters that I never get to see like Bowler Hat Guy from Meet the Robinsons (2007), the hyenas from The Lion King (1994), Ralph and Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph (2012), and the hitchhiking ghosts from ‘The Haunted Mansion’ ride. I’ll admit that the song used in the parade annoyed me very quickly, but that’s just a minor complaint.

To end the night, I headed to the Emporium to buy a shirt, which was part of the event’s exclusive merchandise available. It’s gray, says “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party” on the front, and has a bigger design with Mickey on the back. I kind of regret not getting the orange and black spirit jersey, as well, because I still had my cast member 50 percent off discount throughout the month of August. But, it’s fine because all that orange would’ve been too much for me to handle anyways. So, I got my merch and took the 1:01 a.m. bus back to Flamingo Crossings Village west side.

At first, I was hesitant to go to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party by myself because I thought it’d be more fun to go with other people. But then, I watched Emily Enchanted’s vlog where she attended the party by herself and saw all the fun things she got to do alone. That’s when I got more hyped about the possibility of attending the party by myself. I was supposed to go with a friend originally, but she didn’t have the money for her ticket yet and that date sold out before she had a chance to purchase it. Also, I wasn’t alone for the entire evening because again, I had dining reservations with my friend from the Disney Ohana Club and her brother.

I ended up having the best of both worlds that night because I got to be with friends and by myself! I never got to meet Mickey Mouse in his Halloween costume, but other than that, I did everything that I wanted to do at the party. Heck, I even got to attend the Monsters, Inc. dance party for a bit! Will I want to spend the money to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party again in the future? I’m not sure, but I’m glad I was able to do it once!
