My Top 10 ‘Victorious’ Songs

When I heard that Nickelodeon was premiering a new show (at the time) called Victorious (2010 – 2013), I predicted the show was going to be dumb. I was 11-years-old when the show premiered and back then, I dreamt about becoming a singer. I think the real reason why I thought the show would be an epic fail was because I was jealous of Victoria Justice for making it as a singer. Thankfully, the show proved me wrong and it became one of my favorite shows to ever come from Nickelodeon. For another trip down memory lane, I’ll be sharing my top 10 Victorious songs!

10. “Here’s 2 Us”

I love how chill this song is! “Here’s 2 Us” was featured in season four’s “One Thousand Berry Balls” episode, where Tori performed it at her school’s cowboy luau (the Cow Wow). From my interpretation, the song is about not taking life too seriously and going with it. “Here’s to never winning first place / Here’s to crying on your birthday / Here’s to every single heartbreak.”

9. “Freak the Freak Out”

This is going to sound strange, but every time I hear “Freak the Freak Out,” I think of Titanic (1997). I first saw that movie around the same time season one’s “Freak the Freak Out” episode premiered. Tori performed it at Karaoke Dokie as part of Jade and Cat’s plan to get back at some girls for a rigged karaoke contest. I still think that “Freak the Freak Out” is a weird title and I have no idea what the song is about, but it’s still a karaoke bop! I’ll also give Justice props because I always lost my breath when I tried singing the chorus as a kid; that is not an easy song to take on.

8. “Beggin’ on Your Knees”

I love songs that deal with revenge! At the time, “Beggin’ on Your Knees” was the perfect song to sing to my fake boyfriend that never treated me right. From season two’s episode of the same name as the song, Tori performed it at the Full Moon Jam to get back at a guy that was using her to get a good grade. A guy that plays with other girls to succeed in school? Strange plot, but the song is catchy as heck. My only complaint about “Beggin’ on Your Knees” is that some of the lyrics make me cringe (“I’ll have you crawling like a centipede”).

7. “Tell Me That You Love Me”

Every song that André (Leon Thomas III) did was amazing, including “Tell Me That You Love Me.” From season one’s “The Great Ping Pong Scam” episode, he and Tori performed it at Maestro’s to make up for not having enough money to pay for their dinner. The episode’s version had just the piano, but the album version included drums too. It’s a sweet little love song with a jazz swing to it.

6. “Bad Boys”

In a weird way, “Bad Boys” is an emotional song because it’s the last song that was sung on Victorious. The lyrics are relatable because I fall for a lot of bad boys (celebrity-wise). From season four’s “Star Spangled Tori” episode, Tori performed it on Chris Burm’s talk show, as part of her redemption for her humiliating “Star-Spangled Banner” performance. For a song so late in the series, I’m impressed that “Bad Boys” (and “Here’s 2 Us”) made it on my top 10 list because I think the songs of Victorious got progressively worse. So, congrats to the creators for releasing a few good later songs here and there.

5. “You Don’t Know Me”

Jade (Elizabeth Gillies) was my favorite character from Victorious because she was so bada** and she didn’t care what people thought of her! My wardrobe and personality was semi-inspired by her; I used to wear blue extensions in my hair, but that proved to be too much work to maintain. What’s so cool about “You Don’t Know Me” is that Gillies helped write the song for her character. From season four’s “Tori Fixes Beck and Jade” episode, Jade performed it at the Full Moon Jam and got back together with Beck shortly afterwards. “You Don’t Know Me” sums up Jade and Beck’s relationship; they challenge each other in the best way possible.

4. “365 Days”

I’m so bummed that “365 Days” wasn’t originally included on any of the Victorious albums; it’s not even on Spotify. To make things complicated, the song is featured on the Walmart ZinePak version of the third Victorious album. But seriously, this is one of André’s best songs and the chorus is freaking catchy! Plus, I think it’s sweet that he wrote it about Jade. From season two’s “Jade Gets Crushed” episode (I know, their episode titles are dumb), André performed it at a school event, with the hopes of getting over his crush on Jade. 

3. “Take a Hint”

Tori and Jade singing a duet together was something I never thought I needed until it actually happened! From season three’s “Tori & Jade’s Play Date” episode, Tori and Jade performed it on their “date” at Nozu to get these two annoying guys off their backs. The lyrics are like, “I don’t like you, so leave me alone or I’ll kick your butt” and I loved it! 13-year-old me felt like such a boss singing “Take a Hint” in the shower. Also, since Jade is my favorite, I enjoyed singing her lines whenever I played the song on YouTube. 

2. “Song 2 You”

From aggressive and mean (“Take a Hint”), my second to last pick is more soft and romantic. Some say that Leon Thomas III was the most talented member of Victorious, and I can see why. He helped write “Song 2 You” and it’s one of the best songs from the whole series. His harmonies with Justice are amazing and I enjoy the message of the song. Love isn’t about material things, it’s about showing how much the person means to you, making sure it comes from the heart. 

1. “Give It Up”

Who knew that Ariana Grande would become a big star following the success of Victorious! But seriously, Cat (Grande) and Jade should’ve got more songs on the show because they had the better voices. Everything about “Give It Up” is so dang catchy, the harmonies are tight, and it’s got an R&B vibe (unlike most of Victorious’ pop tunes)! Maybe it’s because Gillies and Grande previously worked together on a musical titled 13, but they had great chemistry together (they’re still good friends)! From season one’s “Freak the Freak Out” episode, Cat and Jade performed it at Karaoke Dokie, but lost the karaoke contest because it was rigged. 

There you have it, people! Those are my top 10 songs from Victorious. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go put blue extensions in my hair and sing “You Don’t Know Me” to my fake boyfriend.
